Karachi Gold Robbery Incident: Rs12.5m Worth Valuables Stolen in Korangi

Gold prices drop by Rs 2,200 in Pakistan

The Karachi gold robbery incident has raised fresh concerns about residential security after armed criminals looted valuables worth millions during an early-morning house break-in in the city’s Korangi area. The robbery, which took place before dawn, left an entire family shaken as gunmen escaped with gold, cash, and household items.

Armed Robbery Targets Family Home in Korangi

KARACHI: A group of armed robbers carried out a large-scale house robbery in Karachi’s PNT Colony, Korangi, in the early hours of Monday, making off with gold and cash valued at approximately Rs12.5 million, police confirmed.

According to initial police reports, the incident occurred around 5:30am when at least five armed suspects entered the residential premises by scaling boundary walls. The attackers forced their way inside the house while the family was asleep.

The home belonged to an elderly man who lives with his three sons, their spouses, and children. The intruders reportedly held all family members at gunpoint, preventing any resistance while they searched the house for valuables.

Gold, Cash, and Household Items Stolen

Police officials stated that the robbers looted around 25 tola of gold jewellery, estimated to be worth Rs12.5 million at current market rates. In addition to the gold, the suspects also stole Rs360,000 in cash.

Three mobile phones were taken during the robbery, along with various household items. These included clothing, shoes, and even children’s toys, indicating that the suspects grabbed whatever valuables they could carry before fleeing the scene.

The entire operation reportedly lasted several minutes, during which the family was threatened with weapons and warned against raising an alarm.

Crime Scene Investigation Underway

Following the incident, police from the Korangi Industrial Area police station reached the site and conducted an initial assessment. The crime scene unit was later called in to collect forensic evidence, including fingerprints and other trace materials, that could help identify the suspects.

Authorities confirmed that the victim’s house did not have CCTV cameras installed, which has complicated the investigation. However, police teams are now reviewing footage from nearby homes and commercial buildings in PNT Colony to trace the suspects’ movements before and after the robbery.

Investigators believe the attackers may have conducted prior surveillance, given their knowledge of the household and the valuables stored inside.

Victim Family’s Background

Police sources said the affected family is involved in a small trading business. They reportedly purchase goods from factories and supply them to retailers in different parts of the city.

While it is not yet confirmed whether the suspects had inside information, investigators are exploring all possible leads, including whether the family was specifically targeted due to its business activities.

No injuries were reported during the robbery, but family members were left traumatised by the ordeal, according to police officials familiar with the case.

Rising Concerns Over Street and House Crime

The Karachi gold robbery incident comes amid ongoing public concern over street crime and residential robberies across the city. Residents of Korangi and surrounding areas have repeatedly raised alarms about security lapses, especially during early-morning hours.

Law enforcement officials acknowledge that criminals often exploit low visibility and reduced police patrols during pre-dawn hours to carry out such crimes. Police have urged residents to install security cameras, improve lighting around homes, and report suspicious activity promptly.

Police Response and Next Steps

Senior police officials said investigation teams are actively working to trace the suspects using available CCTV footage and mobile phone tracking. Raids are expected in different areas once potential leads are verified.

Authorities have assured the public that efforts are being intensified to curb armed robberies and improve patrol coverage in high-risk neighborhoods.

Police have also encouraged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and share any information that could assist in identifying the suspects involved in the robbery.
