KARACHI: Monday was the hottest day of the year in Karachi, with the temperature recorded at 44.1 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, causing many citizens to fall ill.
According to rescue officials, 4 bodies were found on the streets of different areas of Karachi, while 4 others were brought to the hospital after their health deteriorated and died during treatment.
Rescue officials attributed the deaths to extreme heat and drug abuse, but hospital sources did not confirm this.
On the other hand, due to the intense heat, the number of patients suffering from respiratory diseases including asthma in Karachi hospitals increased by 20 percent.
Experts have directed citizens to drink more water and avoid direct sunlight.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Chief Minister expressed regret over the deaths due to the intense heat and other causes in Karachi and directed the administration to immediately identify the bodies found in different areas and search for heirs.
Sharjeel Memon says that load shedding is taking place for 18 to 22 hours in rural areas of the province, and the electricity supply companies cannot punish everyone collectively.
