MUZAFFARABAD: A total of 1,265 candidates have filed nomination papers from 45 constituencies for the upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), according to the Election Commission.
The Election Commission has completed the scrutiny of nomination papers. According to an Election Commission spokesperson, 41 nomination papers were rejected during the scrutiny process across all 45 constituencies.
Of the total candidates, 1,047 submitted nomination papers from 33 constituencies within Azad Jammu and Kashmir, while 218 candidates filed papers from 12 constituencies reserved for Jammu and Kashmir refugees residing in Pakistan.
The spokesperson said that candidates can file appeals against the rejection of nomination papers from June 25 to June 28. So far, 12 appeals have been received, while the deadline for submitting appeals expires tomorrow.
Hearings on the appeals will be conducted on June 29 and 30. The process will be completed on July 1 and 2, after which the Election Commission will issue its final decisions regarding the appeals.
The election process is continuing in accordance with the announced schedule as political parties and independent candidates intensify preparations for the upcoming polls.
