Arrest warrant issued for DC Islamabad Irfan Memon

DC Islamabad

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued an arrest warrant for Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon in the contempt case on Tuesday.

Islamabad High Court Judge Babar Sattar has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for DC Islamabad and ordered IGP Islamabad and IGs of all provinces to arrest and produce him before the court.

Justice Babar announced the verdict in a case regarding the prolonged detention of PTI leaders Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance.

The court’s decision came following Memon’s absence from proceedings, as he requested for exemption from attendance.
DC’s lawyer, Advocate Raja Rizwan Abbasi, told the court that his client is currently in Khairpur due to his mother’s illness.

However, according to the reports, DC Islamabad has embarked on an Umrah pilgrimage.

Earlier, DC Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon along with three other officials were indicted in the contempt case.

During the case hearing, Justice Babar Sattar indicted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) operations Jamil Zafar, Superintendent of Police (SP) Farooq Buttar, and Station House Officer (SHO) Nasir Manzoor.

The court denied the officials’ unconditional apology in the case and indicted them all, stating that each of the four would be subject to contempt proceedings.

The high court had previously ordered the urgent release of PTI leaders Shandana Gulzar and Shehryar Afridi after the suspension of a detention order.
