ISLAMABAD: A major development has come to light in Balochistan politics, where renowned Baloch leader Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal has formally announced his joining the Pakistan Peoples Party after meeting President Asif Ali Zardari.
According to the details, Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal held a detailed meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad, in which they discussed the current political situation of Balochistan, development projects and political stability in the province. Pakistan Peoples Party Balochistan Senior Vice President Ali Hassan Zehri, party leader Malik Chengiz Khan and other political figures were also present during the meeting.
Shafiqur-ur-Rehman Mengal’s joining the PPP is being seen as an increase in the party’s political strength in Balochistan. Political observers say that such joinings can affect the upcoming political scenario during the ongoing political activities between different political factions in Balochistan.
During the meeting, President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed Shafiqur-ur-Rehman Mengal to the party and said that the Pakistan Peoples Party has always believed in the strength of the federation and the equal development of all provinces. He also expressed the hope that with the joining of Shafiqur-ur-Rehman Mengal, the party would be able to play a more active role in Balochistan.
On the other hand, Shafiqur-ur-Rehman Mengal, speaking on the occasion, said that he had decided to join the Pakistan Peoples Party keeping in mind the better future of the country and Balochistan. He said that the PPP is a people’s party that has always struggled for democracy, the constitution and people’s rights.
He further said that joint efforts are needed to solve the problems faced by the people of Balochistan and he will play his role for the development, peace and stability of the province through the platform of the PPP.
