KARACHI: Karachi Zoo lost its last residing Bengal tigress last week after the mammal succumbed to prolonged illness.
The zoo administration said that the animal passed away after remaining seriously ill for some time, adding that she was one of the oldest members of the zoo family.
In recent weeks, the big cat developed multiple health complications and was provided the much-needed treatment, but she couldn’t recover. According to the zoo administration, the female tiger lived out her natural lifespan.
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) officials told a private channel that Tigress was 30 years old and passed away due to natural causes.
According to the local publication, citing sources, said that the Bengal tigress was caged in solitary for a long time. Zoo administration kept several pairs of Bengal tigers but never a birth of the species in decades.
In April last year, 17-year-old African elephant “Noor Jehan” lost her life at the Karachi Zoo following the hard fight against blood parasite disease.
