ISLAMABAD: A shocking scandal has shaken the capital city Islamabad with Traffic Police personnel issuing a driving license to a blind man in return for a bribe of Rs. 30,000.
This gross procedure was exposed by investigative journalist Iqrar-ul-Hassan, who conducted a sting operation to expose deep-rooted corruption within the Traffic Police Department.
Footage revealed the Traffic Police officer and intermediary accepting bribes to facilitate issuing the driver’s license. Perhaps the worst part of it all, the applicant was granted one without having undergone any medical or driving tests.
Such a blatant disregard for safety protocols and regulations raises doubts about the safety of people at large and how this affects the integrity of the licensing process.
The incident has led to public outrage and sentiment seeking immediate changes to eradicate corruption from within the Traffic Police Department. It is imperative that driving licenses are issued only for those individuals who have proven to pass their tests and in full medical compliance.
The need of the hour is that the government should take a strong stand to alleviate this situation, bringing about an end to this entire egregious episode in the issuance of driving permits.
