KARACHI: The price of bread has increased in various parts of the city following a sharp rise in flour prices.
According to reports, after a Rs400 increase in the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag, bread previously being sold at the official rate of Rs14 is now being sold for Rs20 in different areas.
Bakers say the rising costs of LPG, flour, and other operational expenses have made it impossible to sell bread at the government-approved price.
President of the Naan Roti Association, Aftab Aslam Gul, said bakers were compelled to increase prices as they could no longer manage expenses while selling bread for Rs14.
He stated that the association had submitted several applications to the authorities regarding the issue but had received no response.
Aftab Aslam Gul demanded that the official price of bread should be revised to Rs. 20 in order to establish a clear and workable policy for both bakers and consumers.
