ISLAMABAD: The British High Commission has introduced a digital UK immigration system, replacing physical documents with online records. This shift aims to streamline travel for Pakistanis visiting the UK.

By moving to an online system, the visa process will be more efficient and secure, eliminating the need for physical documents like stamps and permits. The British High Commission clarified that the new eVisa process is free, secure, and simple.

Key Changes in the UK immigration system:

  1. No more Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs), vignette stickers, or “wet ink stamps”.
  2. Online immigration status is accessible via a UKVI account for stays over six months.
  3. No UKVI account is required for tourism visas under six months.
  4. Physical documents are no longer needed, but BRP cards remain valid until December 31, 2024.
  5. BRP cards can be used to set up a UKVI account and access eVisa records.
  6. Carry both BRP and passport when traveling abroad to prove UK re-entry rights.

The High Commission emphasizes that updating physical documents to eVisas does not affect immigration status or conditions of entry/stay in the UK. Visa holders must collect their BRP upon arrival in the UK.
