Earthquake tremors felt in parts of country, no casualties reported

ISLAMABAD: Earthquake jolts of 5.7 magnitude were felt in Islamabad, Lahore, and other parts of the country including Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that the earthquake originated at 12:28 pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST) with a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the depth of the quake was recorded at 10 kilometers and the epicenter was situated near the Shadi Wala area in Dera Ghazi Khan, southwestern part of Punjab. 

Earthquake shocks were also felt in Multan, Faisalabad, Jhang, Layyah, Khushab, Khaniwal, Gujrat, Jhelum, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Toba Tek Singh, and Jhang among other cities.

Meanwhile, the KP cities included Peshawar, Swat, North Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, Buner, Shangla, and Chitral among others felt the termors.

United States Geological Survey stated that the extent of the earthquake was recorded at magnitude 5.4, affecting India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
