Maryam Nawaz announces interest free loan program for house repairs

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced an interest-free loan program of Rs 1 million for the construction, repair and expansion of weak and dilapidated houses.

Addressing a ceremony in Sahiwal, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that living in a single house with three or four families is a reality for thousands of families. Keeping this need in mind, interest-free loans of up to Rs 1 million are being provided under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program so that people can build more rooms or floors in their houses.

She said that similarly, through “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar”, 30,000 deserving families have been given up to 5 acres of government agricultural land on a 20-year lease, along with Rs 50,000 per acre so that they can get decent employment.

Maryam Nawaz said that under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program, the milestone of construction of 200,000 houses was achieved in just two years, out of which 180,000 have been completed and 700 to 800 new houses are being built every day.

The Chief Minister said that 2,000 landless families have also been given free 5 marla plots, now through “Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat”, easy loans of up to Rs. 500,000 are also being provided for the repair and strengthening of weak houses.

Maryam Nawaz said that if any needy citizen in Punjab needs immediate assistance, be it ration, wheelchair, hearing aid or any other assistive device, just inform on the helpline.

She added that the government has established such a system that the assistance is delivered to the deserving person’s house within 48 hours of receiving the application so that timely support can be provided at the time of need.
