ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disqualified 9 members of parliament including the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, the Opposition Leader in the Senate, Shibli Faraz, and other PTI MNAs.

The Election Commission has de-notified these members after they were convicted in the May 9 cases.
The disqualified include five members of the National Assembly, one senator, and 3 members of the Punjab Assembly.
The disqualified include Rai Haider Ali, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Rai Hassan Nawaz, and Zartaj Gul.
According to the Election Commission, Punjab Assembly members Ansar Iqbal, Junaid Afzal, and Rai Muhammad Murtaza Iqbal have also been disqualified.
The Election Commission has declared the seats of the disqualified members of parliament vacant.
On July 31, the Faisalabad Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced 196 accused, including Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz, in three separate cases of May 9.
The special anti-terrorism court had earlier sentenced 168 accused to 10 years in prison each.
The anti-terrorism court sentenced Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Zartaj Gul to 10 years in prison. Member of the National Assembly Sahibzada Hamid Raza was also sentenced to 10 years in prison, while Junaid Afzal Sahi was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
