Ederly man commits suicide at Rawalpindi railway station

Pakistan Railways launches new ticket refund policy

RAWALPINDI: A tragic incident was reported on Tuesday morning, in which an old man is said to have killed himself at the Rawalpindi Railway Station.

According to the officials, the old man placed his head between the 5 number tracks when a speedy train was approaching nearby.

Police officials have identified the deceased as Bhoota Bakhsh, and his body is transferred to the hospital for other legal procedures. Further investigations into the incident are still ongoing to identify the main cause of this bizarre incident.

An important step in the fight against suicide was taken during the PTI government’s time when President Arif Alvi signed legislation eliminating the penalty for attempted suicide.

In the past, attempting suicide was penalized by Section 325 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which carried a maximum sentence of one year in ordinary jail, a fine, or both.

Approximately 5% of people worldwide attempt suicide at least once in their lifetime, and one person dies by suicide every 40 seconds, according to statistics. Furthermore, low- and middle-income nations account for roughly 79% of all suicides.
