Expected dates for Basant festival 2026 in revealed

Punjab govt issues NOC to use school rooftops for Basant 2026

LAHORE: The people of Punjab province in Pakistan are likely to celebrate the Basant festival next year after a long gap, as the provincial government relaxed the laws by unveiling the Kite Flying Ordinance 2025.

The recommendations for the event have been finalised, reports said, by the Home Department, and these would be sent to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for approval.

It has come to the fore that the Basant festival will be celebrated in the first week of February 2026. However, a final decision is yet to be made in this regard.

Expected Schedule of Basant 2026 in Punjab

Earlier in the day, the provincial government brought the Punjab Kite Flying Ordinance 2025 that regulates kite flying in the province.

According to the new rules, kite flying and Basant events will be permitted only with the approval of the deputy commissioners.

The ordinance requires the kite manufacturers and sellers to register with the government. Additionally, it will involve registration for the kite flying organizations, after which they will be licensed for kite production and sales.

In a significant move, the ordinance has completely repealed the 2001 Kite Flying Ban Ordinance. All actions taken previously under the old law have been validated.
