Federal Power Minister Awais Leghari orders revision of net metering guidelines

Awais Leghari takes notice regarding off-take of Power from SPPs by DISCOs exceeding merit order

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, has directed an immediate review of the Pakistan Power Market Company (PPMC) guidelines that had prevented net metering users from receiving credit for electricity units sent to the grid.

The revision comes after several net metering consumers installed systems exceeding the approved capacity under their licenses (DG Capacity), resulting in some users not receiving credit for electricity sold to the national grid last month.

The Power Division clarified that the previous practice of withholding credits was incorrect. Under the revised guidelines, only units exceeding the approved capacity will not be credited, while all units sent to the national grid within the licensed capacity will now be credited.

All distribution companies (DISCOs) have been instructed to implement the changes immediately. Users whose bills did not reflect net metering credits will receive the corresponding adjustments in the next billing cycle.

The Federal Minister reiterated that electricity consumers must receive their rightful credits and emphasized that the government will not compromise on ensuring fair treatment for all users.
