GILGIT BALTISTAN: The historic suspension bridge, which connects Danyore town, Gilgit, to Karakoram International University (KIU), caught fire on Sunday night, causing rescue teams to take action immediately.
The fire, which started around 10 PM, caused about 30 feet of the bridge to be burnt, the flames having originated from the bottom side of the bridge.
Rescue 1122, fire brigade, and local volunteers worked together to control the blaze, removing unburned wood from the bridge to control further damage.
Though the fire was on the underside of the bridge, it did create some challenges for the rescuers, but ultimately they were able to stop it.
An investigation is now underway to ascertain the cause of the fire, which at this time is not known. The bridge is an important link between Danyore town and KIU, and its destruction will cause serious inconveniences to the commuters and students.
