GILGIT: The Pakistan Peoples Party has gained a key political figure as Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Speaker Nazir Ahmed Advocate announced his decision to leave the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and join the PPP.
According to reports, Nazir Ahmed Advocate resigned from PTI’s primary membership before formally joining the PPP. Senior party leaders, including Secretary General Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and Qamar Zaman Kaira, welcomed him into the party.
Nazir Ahmed has been serving as Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly since June 2023. His move is being seen as another political setback for PTI in the region.
Earlier, in August last year, former PTI Gilgit-Baltistan Information Secretary Sajid Qureshi also joined the PPP along with several associates. At the time, he cited dissatisfaction with protest politics and expressed confidence in PPP’s leadership, emphasizing a focus on national interest.
Party leaders have assured new entrants that their contributions will be recognized and that they will be given due respect and roles within the party.
