Gilgit-Baltistan CTD officially launched to strengthen counter-terrorism

GILGIT: Following orders from the Federal Interior Minister, a formal Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has been established and made operational in Gilgit-Baltistan, police officials confirmed.

The newly formed CTD has initially begun operations with 200 officers and staff, while recruitment for an additional 600 positions is expected to be completed within the current year.

To enhance the training and operational capacity of the CTD, support will be sought from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police departments, officials added.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tanveer-ul-Hassan has been appointed as the head of the CTD in Gilgit-Baltistan.

All FIRs related to terrorism registered so far in the region have been transferred to the CTD for further investigation and action.

This move marks a significant step in strengthening law enforcement and counter-terrorism capabilities in Gilgit-Baltistan.
