Govt launches 100MW solar project to power Gilgit-Baltistan

Pakistan inaugurates first solar panel testing lab

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Steering Committee on the 100-megawatt solarization project for Gilgit-Baltistan was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Energy, Sardar Owais Ahmad Khan Leghari. Senior officials from the Ministry of Energy and relevant institutions participated in the session.

Chairing the committee formed on the directive of the Prime Minister, the Federal Minister emphasized that practical steps would be taken under a comprehensive strategy to ensure the timely completion of the project. He stated that providing affordable and environment-friendly electricity to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan is a top priority of the government.

Highlighting the importance of clean energy, the minister said that harnessing alternative energy sources is the need of the hour, and the government is focused on implementing sustainable energy projects.

Terming the 100MW solarization project a milestone in national development, the minister said the initiative would not only improve energy access for local communities but also pave the way for economic and social development in the region.
