ISLAMABAD: The government’s surplus power package has significantly boosted electricity consumption, with an additional 2,164 GWh used between December 2025 and February 2026, according to the Power Division.
The initiative, launched in December 2025, aimed to increase power usage and ensure better utilization of excess production capacity.
During the three-month peyriod, consumers received a total benefit of Rs 20.83 billion. The industrial sector remained the primary beneficiary, securing Rs 19.6 billion, while agricultural consumers gained Rs 1.14 billion under the package.
Among industrial users, B-3 category consumers received the highest benefit of Rs 8.76 billion, followed by B-2 (Rs 5.34 billion), B-4 (Rs 4.02 billion), and B-1 (Rs 1.48 billion). Participation levels were also notable, with 67% of B-4 (large industries) availing the package, along with 52% of B-3, 48% of B-2, and 43% of B-1 consumers.
In the agricultural sector, 34% of consumers—82,334 out of 242,451—benefited from the initiative. Officials noted that the package encouraged industries to shift from costly self-generation to cheaper electricity from the national grid, increasing overall demand.
The Power Division stated that the initiative not only stimulated energy consumption but also provided long-term financial relief to key sectors, marking it as a successful step toward efficient energy utilization and economic support.
