Govt to end temporary posts, offers financial packages to affected employees

ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan has decided to eliminate all temporary and emergency positions as part of its organizational restructuring and cost-saving measures.

As per the details, the Ministry of Finance has sent the directive to all ministries and divisions for immediate implementation. This move follows recommendations from the government’s “Right-Sizing Committee.”

Positions being terminated include roles such as Naib Qasid, security guard, sweeper, record sorter, carpenter, electrician and plumber with a ban on future recruitment for these roles.

To support affected employees, the government has introduced several financial packages, including:

Lum Sum Package:

Up to 10-year of service: 1 basic salary per year.

10-20 years of service: 1.5 basic salaries per year.

Over 20 years of service: 2 basic salaries per year.

Pension & Gratuity:

Leas than 5 years of service: No additional benefits.

5-10 years of service: Gratuity equal to one basic salary per year.

Hybrid Package:

For employees with up to 10 years of service” 1.5 gross salary per remaining year.

For those with over 10 years: 1.5 basic salaries as a lump sum.

This package has been approved for employees of the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) and may be extended to others as part of future restructuring efforts.
