ISLAMABAD: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed Rawalpindi and Islamabad once again, causing flooding in the Saidpur river, where a car was swept away in the fast-flowing water.
According to the Managing Director (MD) of WASA, the highest rainfall was recorded in Saidpur, located in the catchment area of Nala Lai, where 124 mm of rain was recorded. In addition, 46 mm of rain was recorded in Golra and 16 mm of rain was recorded at PMD.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted more heavy rains starting today across Punjab, warning that the new spell will be even stronger.
After the rain, the water level in Nala Lai reached 10 feet at Katarian and 5 feet at Gowalmandi bridge.
The district administration reported that illegal constructions in Saidpur disrupted the flow of water, causing a car to fall into the river. An administration spokesperson confirmed that these encroachments have caused standing water to accumulate in low-lying areas.
Officials said that illegal structures will be demolished and the operation against encroachments will continue until all obstacles are removed.
