IHC allows Imran Khan–lawyer meeting in £190m case hearing

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday directed jail authorities to arrange a meeting between PTI founder Imran Khan and his counsel Salman Safdar at 2 pm tomorrow, during the hearing of petitions seeking suspension of sentence in the £190 million case.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif heard the case, where NAB prosecutors and defence counsel presented their arguments. The court approved a miscellaneous petition filed by Salman Safdar requesting permission to meet his client.

During the proceedings, the Chief Justice emphasized expeditious disposal of the appeal, stating that once arguments begin, the court would try to decide the case within seven days.

The bench also made it clear that hearing schedules would be set according to the court’s workload rather than requests from parties.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutors sought adjournment until Monday; however, the court indicated it would proceed with hearings without unnecessary delay.

The case pertains to petitions filed by Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi seeking suspension of their sentences in the high-profile £190 million reference.

The court adjourned further proceedings until Thursday, directing that regular hearings be held to ensure timely progress in the case.
