India halts Sikh pilgrims for Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s anniversary in Pakistan

India halts Sikh pilgrims for Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s anniversary in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: As the ceasefire continues between Pakistan and India, Uncertainty surrounds the planned arrival of 500 Sikh pilgrims to Pakistan for the Maharaja Ranjit Singh centenary, as India has apparently placed travel restrictions, according to media reports.

According to security reports, the Indian government has barred Sikh pilgrims from entering Pakistan since May 7, 2025. The decision comes ahead of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s death anniversary, which is scheduled for June 30.

According to sources, India is seeking to politicize the issue by targeting Sikh citizens and exploiting them to apply pressure on Pakistan.

The Modi administration has also blocked the Kartarpur Corridor, which has harmed the religious sensitivities of the Sikh community.
