PESHAWAR: The militant group Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) has claimed responsibility for the assassination of Sheikh Idrees in Charsadda, according to reports.
Sources said the attack targeted the religious scholar in the district of Charsadda, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The group later issued a statement claiming involvement in the killing, though independent verification of the claim is still awaited.

Maulana Muhammad Idrees Martyred in Assassination Attack
A renowned religious figure of Charsadda, a former member of the provincial assembly, and Sheikh Hadith Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Idrees Tarangzai was martyred in an assassination attack.
Maulana Muhammad Idrees was a former MPA of JUI. According to sources, the shooting incident on Maulana Muhammad Idrees took place in the Atmanazai area of Charsadda district.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
Maulana Muhammad Idrees was on his way to Darul Uloom Atmanzai to give a lecture on Hadith when the incident took place. His body was shifted to DHQ Hospital, where thousands of his devotees reached as soon as the information was received.
Sheikh Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idrees was counted among the renowned and eminent scholars of Pakistan. According to police sources, the shooting was carried out by unknown persons. After the incident, he was immediately shifted to the hospital, but he died on the way. After the shooting incident, the accused fled the scene.

Senator Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman has said that the clerics are the well-wishers of the state, but they are being continuously targeted, which is worrying.
He alleged that the Form 47 government has been in power in the province for the past thirteen years and has failed to establish peace.
He said that the government itself cannot maintain peace but is waging a campaign against the federation.
Senator Atta-ur-Rehman said that at present, the rule of terrorists is visible in the province, not the government, while the current provincial government has become the enemy of the nation.
He announced that the protest to be held tomorrow will not only be against unrest but also against the provincial and federal governments.
