ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including former NA opposition leader Omar Ayub, Zartaj Gul, and spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra conducted the hearing of the case relating to the party’s rally in Islamabad’s Sangjani area back in September 2024.
Lawyers Sardar Masroof Khan, Amna Ali, and Murtaza Toori appeared on behalf of the PTI leaders.
The judge rejected Ayub’s application seeking an exemption from the hearing, saying that none of the leaders appeared before the court even once.
Judge Sipara also directed the police to arrest and produce the PTI leaders before the court by October 20.
On September 8, PTI supporters staged a rally on the outskirts of the federal capital, demanding the immediate release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and criticizing the government for marginalizing the party.
Following that, at least 10 PTI MNAs were arrested on Sept 9 and 10 last year from different areas of Islamabad, including the Parliament House.
