ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has selected Fatima Jinnah Park, aka F-9 Park, for the construction of an international-standard cricket stadium in Islamabad.
As per a local publication, the civic agency has brought former cricketer Rashid Latif on board for his expert consultation on the construction of the cricket stadium, ensuring that the stadium meets global benchmarks for top-tier facilities.
Sources that Rashid Latif will assist the CDA in terms of stadium design and technical aspects, as he had previously played an important role in the construction of the Islamabad Club Cricket Ground.
Moreover, the publication reported that the authority is also looking into the legal obstacles for the stadium’s construction, as the Supreme Court has prohibited CDA from construction on the city’s green areas.
The report alleged that the civic agency has said that green areas will be kept in some enclosures, like cricket stadiums in South Africa and the West Indies.
The CDA may also approach the Supreme Court for clearance for the construction of the cricket stadium.
It should be noted that earlier, the Supreme Court had stopped the construction of the cricket stadium in the federal capital’s Shakarparian National Park.
Earlier, a report alleged that the Capital Development Authority has entrusted the National Engineering Services Pakistan Pvt Limited (NESPAK) with the design and construction of the stadium.
Reportedly, a team from NESPAK, including the Project Manager, has already conducted an initial assessment of the proposed location.
