LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Secretary General Amir-ul-Azeem passed away on Wednesday after battling cancer.
Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson confirmed Amir-ul-Azeem’s death and said that Amir-ul-Azeem had been ill and suffering from cancer for a long time.
According to the Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson, Amir-ul-Azeem’s funeral prayers will be offered today at 5 pm in Mansoora, Lahore.
Amir-ul-Azeem was born in Lahore in 1958 and received an MBA degree from Punjab University.
Amir-ul-Azeem was the elected president of the Punjab University Students’ Union and was also the Nazim-e-Ala of the Islamic Students’ Union.
During his student days, Amir-ul-Azeem led a long march for the revival of the students’ union during the Zia-ul-Haq era and also served a prison sentence for it.
Amir-ul-Azeem was also the Central Information Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan for a long time.
In 2019, Siraj-ul-Haq and in 2024, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman appointed him the Central Secretary General on the advice of the Central Majlis-e-Shura.
