Junaid Akbar resigns from PAC chairmanship

ISLAMABAD: Junaid Akbar, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), resigned from his position as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday, according to media reports.

Junaid Akbar handed up his resignation to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, according to reports.

In his resignation letter, Junaid Akbar stated that his position as PAC Chairman was a responsibility handed to him by his party. He further stated that he resigned from the role after obtaining directives from the PTI founder chairman, Imran Khan.

He went on to claim that if the PTI founder asked him to resign from the PTI KP presidency, he would do so without hesitation.

Junaid Akbar also held thorough discussions with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on his resignation.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan had instructed Junaid Akbar, a party lawmaker, to step down from the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), party sources said.

As per details, the former prime minister, who’s incarcerated in Adiala Jail, conveyed his decision to the party leadership through his sister, Aleema Khan.

Sources further said that Aleema delivered the written directive from Imran Khan to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja.

PTI founder had instructed Junaid Akbar to relinquish the role to focus entirely on party affairs and organize weekly rallies and conventions as PTI’s president for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sources said.
