Karachi traders to strike against FBR advance tax under Tajir Dost Scheme

Budget 2026-27 likely to introduce fixed tax scheme for small traders

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued a notice on August 17, requiring traders in Karachi to pay an advance tax of Rs 60,000 per mod of Revenue nth under the Tajir Dost Scheme. The payment must be made by the 15th of each month.

Moreover, the scheme, designed to streamline tax compliance for traders, has raised concerns within the business community, especially among shopkeepers in areas like Liaquatabad and the electronics market.

In response to the new tax burden, the business community in Karachi has decided to resist paying the advance tax under this scheme.

The traders’ associations have announced a nationwide strike on August 28 to protest the Tajir Dost scheme, calling for its withdrawal.

In addition, they also seek the reversal of increased taxes on the export sector and the hike in income tax slabs for salaried individuals and businessmen.
