PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved the purchase of 50 additional diesel hybrid buses for the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system at an estimated cost of Rs 200 million. 3.2 billion.
The decision was taken in the 34th meeting of the cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. A statement said that the expansion of the fleet was necessary due to increasing demand and the expansion of BRT routes from six to eight.
TransPeshawar initially acquired 220 buses, later adding 24 in 2022, taking the total number to 244 before this new approval.
The cabinet also approved the merger of the campuses of ZamungKor – a model institute for state children located in the girls’ campuses of Swat, Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad and Peshawar – into the central autonomous institution located in Peshawar under the annual development planning scheme.
The main campus currently houses 600 children, while 425 are enrolled in the merged campus.
Furthermore, the cabinet approved an agreement with Pak-Qatar Asset Management, marking it as the 13th asset management company to operate under the Contributory Provident Fund Rules, 2022. The move is part of the province’s long-term pension reforms initiated in 2015.
The meeting also approved amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Public Services Act, 2014.
