KP Govt announces Rs 2 million compensation for each flood victim

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister of KP Ali Amin Gandapur, while visiting the affected areas to assess the damage and monitor the relief operations, expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and announced a compensation of Rs 2 million for the families of those who lost their lives.

Speaking to the media, Gandapur confirmed that immediate financial assistance would be provided to the bereaved families.

According to an official briefing, the disaster has killed hundreds of people, left 134 missing and 159 injured, and damaged 5,380 houses in seven union councils of Buner. Relief activities are underway with 223 rescue personnel, 205 doctors, 260 paramedics and 400 police personnel. Three battalions of the Pakistan Army are also participating in the operations.

Essential commodities including food, tents and blankets are being distributed and important roads have been restored in Pir Baba and Gokand. So far, 3,500 stranded residents have been rescued while search operations are underway for the missing.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed that roads blocked due to landslides and rains be cleared immediately and stranded passengers be helped as soon as possible. He stressed that he is closely monitoring the rescue and relief activities led by the NDMA.
