LAHORE: Residents of Lahore are likely to receive a four-day vacation during the first week of February for the festive occasion of Basant. Government officials are considering designating Friday, February 4, as an extra holiday.
It would thus become a part of the holiday celebrations together with Kashmir Day on February 5 and the weekend on February 6–7. According to the officials, the additional day would be instrumental in carrying out the Basant celebrations safely and enjoyably.
It aims at lessening the flow of traffic and restricting the city’s motorcycle movement to necessary cases only. Basant celebrations are to be held on February 6, 7, and 8, which is considered a great opportunity for the people to celebrate the kite festival with more time.
If the proposal gets the green light, then the people of Lahore would be able to enjoy a four-day break composed of a public holiday, a weekend, and festival days, and they could even consider taking the whole week off.
The authorities, however, are going to make the final decision announcement soon. After that, the residents can plan for the longer festivities.
