LESCO imposes ban on Solar Green Meters

LESCO imposes ban on Solar Green Meters

LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has banned the installation of solar green meters for consumers as per the directives of the Ministry of Energy, and this was confirmed by the officials on Tuesday.

According to the LESCO officials, the ban will affect thousands of domestic and industrial consumers who were expecting to get solar green meters installed.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had earlier directed the power utilities to install the meters, but the Ministry of Energy later ordered to stop the process.

The LESCO officials said the company has to follow the ministry’s orders. So, the ban on solar green meters is likely to last about one to two months. During this time, the company will refrain from putting in new solar green meters at all.

The authorities also pointed to LESCO having ceased entirely the provision of new solar connections. In addition, the officials remarked that all the other distribution companies (DISCOs) have likewise halted the installation of solar meters until there is a new solar green meter policy in place.

This decision has sparked apprehensions among the consumers who had already invested in solar systems with an aim to cut down electricity costs and grid dependency.
