LHC hears petition challenging recent increase in petroleum prices

Petroleum Minister links fuel price hike to levy and IMF conditions

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court heard a petition filed against the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products, during which the court sought responses from the federal government, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and other relevant authorities.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh heard the petition filed by the public interest organization Judicial Activism Panel.

The petition described the increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and other petroleum products as illegal and anti-people.

The court directed the federal government to also present the complete mechanism related to price determination, so that it can be clear that the additional burden on the public was imposed on a decisive basis.

According to the petitioner, the increase in the prices of petroleum products is unbearable for the public, who are already worried about inflation, which makes daily essential items more expensive.
