LAHORE: After the end of Eid-ul-Fitr, the business hours across Punjab have been restored to normal, under which markets and shops across the province will be required to close at 10 pm.
According to the details, keeping in mind the convenience of citizens and the increasing trend of shopping on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the government had allowed shops and markets to remain open 24 hours a day.
The aim of this decision was not only to provide more time to the public but also to provide more business opportunities to traders so that the rush during Eid shopping could be reduced and the economy would also benefit.
However, now that the Eid holidays are over, the government has withdrawn this temporary concession and has re-imposed the old working hours. Under the new (or previous) system, all small and big markets, shopping malls and shops will be closed at 10 pm, while instructions have also been issued to the relevant institutions to ensure the implementation of this decision.
Officials say the aim of restoring the working hours is to maintain civic order, reduce traffic congestion and balance energy consumption. Keeping markets open late at night not only puts an additional burden on electricity and other resources but can also create security issues.
Citizens have also been instructed to adjust their shopping routines to the new working hours to avoid any inconvenience. The government has made it clear that action can be taken against violators, so all shopkeepers should ensure that they adhere to the prescribed hours.
