ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has announced that the birth of the new moon for Ramadan 1447 AH is expected on the 17th of February at 5:01 pm (PSL), and there is a fair chance to sight it on the evening of the 18th.
The moon was expected to be formed at its meeting point at 5:01 pm on February 17, and “astronomical calculations show that there was a fair chance to sight the crescent on February 18 (29th Shabaan 1447 AH),” an advisory issued to the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Research and Reference Wing by its department stated.
According to the PMD’s Climate Data Processing Centre, climate records indicate that it is likely the weather will be mostly cloudy or fair on the evening of the 18th of February, which might be an advantage for attempts to sight the moon.
The department also informed the public about the timings for the last time the moon would be sighted (PST) on the 18th of February, which would be visible up to 7:24 pm in the Sindh region, 7:08 pm in Punjab, 7:47 pm in Balochistan, 7:13 pm in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 6:58 pm in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K),
