MULTAN: Heavy rainfall has caused Multan to be completely paralyzed with the metro bus service suspended due to a burst WASA line. The district administration has temporarily stopped the service from BCG Chowk to BZU Station, citing necessary repairs.
In addition, Record-breaking rains have swamped Multan and Southern Punjab, causing widespread flooding and turning roads into ponds.
A 48-year-old record was shattered, with 177mm of rain recorded at Chungi No. 9 Disposal Station, surpassing the previous record of 134.5mm set in 1976.
In response, WASA Managing Director Khalid Raza Khan has declared a rain emergency, with ongoing drainage operations and regular updates to authorities.
Despite efforts, low-lying areas remain flooded, posing challenges for residents. Power outages have also occurred due to tripped MEPCO feeders, with restoration promised once the rain subsides.
With more rain forecasted, officials are on high alert, but the city’s drainage system is struggling to cope with the deluge. The Meteorological Department warns of continued rainfall in the coming days.
