ISLAMABAD: On the instructions of the Ministry of Energy, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has temporarily stopped the installation of solar green meters, affecting thousands of domestic and industrial consumers.
After this decision, those consumers who had already installed solar systems and had submitted applications for green meters are also worried.
According to LESCO officials, there was permission from NEPRA for solar green meters, however, after receiving new instructions from the Ministry of Energy in recent days, the installation of green meters has been suspended immediately. Officials say that the institution is bound by government orders, which is why this step has been taken.
According to sources, this ban may remain in place for one to two months. During this time, the government is preparing a new solar policy, after which a final decision regarding the installation of green meters will be taken. All applications have been postponed until the announcement of the new policy.
LESCO says that this decision will apply not only to domestic consumers but also to industrial consumers. This has temporarily harmed the use of alternative energy in the industrial sector. Many industrialists have invested in solar systems, but due to the lack of green meters, they are not able to reap the benefits.
According to energy experts, due to the rising prices of electricity, people were moving towards solar energy in large numbers. In such a situation, the ban on green meters is causing anxiety among consumers.
