Monsoon rains 2024: PDMA issues alert for flooding in Punjab

The monsoon rains wreaked havoc in the country as 21 more people died in the last 24 hours due to rain-related incidents, according to The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for Punjab, forecasting rain across the province from June 26 to July 1. Residents, especially in larger cities, should be prepared for possible showers.

According to PDMA spokesperson, urban flooding is likely in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala and Narowal. Authorities in these areas have been alerted to take necessary measures to deal with possible flooding.

The forecast also includes the possibility of severe thunderstorms and hailstorm in some districts.

The forecast also predicts severe thunderstorms and occasional hailstorms in various districts of Punjab. With the increase in solar panel installations, precautions are taken to protect these panels in harsh weather.

For flood-prone districts, the PDMA has advised local authorities to prioritize clearing any debris or blockages from rivers and canals. This will help ensure smooth flow of water and reduce the risk of flooding.

In flood-affected districts, the PDMA has urged local administrations to clear rivers and canals to prevent overflow. Additionally, residents are advised to avoid crossing rivers and streams during heavy rains and floods to ensure safety.
