LAHORE: The National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) has made it necessary for passengers in public transport to wear seatbelts while travelling on Motorways.
The motorway authorities have confirmed the decision, failing to which will lead to heavy fines.
All public transport vehicles are directed to be equipped with seatbelts for each passenger, and no transport will be allowed to travel on the motorway that fails to do so.
The NHMP stated that the step aims to reduce the risk of injuries and fatalities in case of accidents and to bring local travel standards in line with international safety protocols.
Earlier, the National Highway Authority (NHA) announced a significant increase in toll tax on all motorways in Pakistan, effective from June 15, 2025.
Under the new policy, vehicles without M-Tags or with insufficient balance will be charged an additional 50 percent.
The move is aimed at increasing revenue and encouraging the use of M-Tags to improve traffic flow and improve motorway efficiency.
New toll rates include:
Islamabad to Lahore (M-2): Rs. 1800 for cars
Lahore to Abdul Hakeem (M-3): Rs. 1200
Pindi Bhattian to Multan (M-4): Rs. 1600
Multan to Sukkur (M-5): Rs. 1800
D.I. Khan to Hakla (M-14): Rs. 1000
Hasan Abdal to Mansehra (E-35): Rs. 450
For commercial vehicles:
2-3 axle trucks (Lahore to Islamabad): Rs. 7900
Articulated trucks: Rs. 10,200
