LAHORE: A new facility has been introduced for those who get driving licenses in Punjab, now “learner and regular” driving licenses will be available in Punjab on the same day.
Traffic Police Punjab has announced a major change in the licensing process for the convenience of citizens. Under the new policy, motorcyclists will now be able to get their learner permit and regular driving license in the same day.
A spokesperson for the Traffic Police said that the aim of this initiative is to eliminate delays in obtaining licenses and attract citizens towards legal driving.
According to traffic police data, 2.354 million motorcycle licenses have been issued across Punjab so far this year, while more than 1 million of the licenses issued are regular driving licenses.
According to statistics, more than 671 thousand citizens renewed their licenses, while 710 thousand people benefited from learner services.
It should be noted that earlier, users had to wait a long time to obtain a regular license after a learner license, but now this process has been streamlined so that the public can be provided with a license without any waiting.
DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir said that one of the major reasons for accidents on the roads is riding motorcycles without a license.
He clarified that strict action is being taken against those driving without a license, citizens should immediately get their licenses to avoid heavy fines and legal complications.
On the other hand, DIG Traffic has issued strict orders to prevent accidents across the province. DIG Traffic has issued a letter to all district officers.
The letter states that orders have been issued to cancel the licenses of drivers involved in fatal accidents, cases should be registered against drivers involved in accidents without a license, additional personnel should be deployed in areas where accidents are frequent, vehicles should be stopped and challaned for one-way violations.
The letter also said that action should be taken against those who do not wear helmets and seat belts, strict action should be taken against those who use mobile phones while traveling, and lane restrictions should be imposed to ensure the flow of traffic.
