ISLAMABAD: A notification circulating on social media claiming that Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has resigned from his position as the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been declared false by senior provincial minister Maryam Aurangzeb.
Aurangzeb took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to refute the claims and confirm that the notification was not genuine.

The misinformation began spreading on social media on August 4. Nawaz Sharif, who had been elected unopposed as the PML-N president on May 28, 2024, returned to the position after a six-year break.
He had previously been removed from the party presidency due to a Supreme Court ruling in the Panama Papers case.
On May 13, 2024, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif stepped down as PML-N president following requests from senior party leaders for Nawaz Sharif to take over.
The PML-N Central Working Committee (CWC) convened on May 18 under Article 15 of the party constitution, and Nawaz Sharif’s presidency was ratified by the General Council on May 28.
