Pakistan reaches out to India on Indus water treaty, seeks meaningful dialogue

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government has decided to give a formal notice to India on the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, which was canceled by India after the Pahalgam attack, according to sources.

Emergency legal and constitutional consultations are underway on the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India, while the initial homework in this regard has also been completed.

Sources said that the ministries of foreign affairs, water resources, and law have done the initial homework, and it has been decided to give a notice to India through regular diplomatic channels in a few days.

The Indus Commission says that in the notice, concrete reasons will be sought from India for the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.

Strong protest is also being considered at international forums, and India’s water aggression will be brought to the attention of the world in an effective manner.

According to sources of the Indus Commission, Pakistan has legal precedence over the Indus Waters Treaty. It is hoped that India will have to reconsider its decision soon. All steps will be taken after the approval of the government and the cabinet.

However, Pakistan not only condemned the Pahalgam incident, but Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also offered that if India wants to conduct an impartial investigation into the matter, Pakistan is ready for all kinds of cooperation.

India is also making wild promises of action against Pakistan, however, Pakistan’s political and military leadership has made it clear that any misadventure will be met by India with full force
