LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has announced that its luxury saloons, once reserved for government officials, are now open to the public and can be booked at discounted rates.
In a statement released on social media, the railways said all saloons are available for passenger booking following years of restriction to the Prime Minister, federal ministers, the Chairman Railway, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), and Inspector Generals of Police (IGs).
The recently announced discounted fares include Rs600,000 for the PM Saloon from Karachi to Lahore, and Rs150,000 from Islamabad to Lahore.
Other saloon fares are Rs400,000 from Karachi to Lahore, and Rs100,000 from Islamabad to Lahore. Railway officials mention that these luxury coaches have all the latest amenities, more privacy, and the ability to travel in style.
They will be offered on Routes from Islamabad–Lahore, Karachi–Lahore, Lahore–Karachi, and Lahore–Islamabad. The decision was made by Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi after instruction from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, for the public to also experience a luxury travel facility, and to make the best use of Pakistan Railways facilities.

The Pakistan Railways spokesperson stated that the implementation process has already commenced in collaboration with some banks. The process will begin at the key stations, and once completed, encompass a wider range of stations in the country, ultimately providing more access and convenience for travelers on Pakistan Railways.
He stated that this initiative shows the commitment by Pakistan Railways to improve travel experience by adding basic amenities stations so that travel is easier and more convenient for everyone.
