Pakistan ranks 195th in Global Passport Index 2025

Pakistan ranks 195th in Global Passport Index 2025

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has once again slipped to the bottom of the global passport rankings, ranking 195 out of 199 in the Nomad Passport Index 2025. The index, compiled by Nomad Capitalist, examines not only visa-free access but also taxes, global perception, dual citizenship and personal freedom.

Despite improvements in some areas, Pakistan’s low score reflects limited global mobility, limited dual citizenship options and poor international perception. Only four countries – Iraq, Eritrea, Yemen and Afghanistan – are ranked lower.

Here are the countries with the weakest passport, according to Nomad:

199. Afghanistan

198. Yemen

197. Eritrea

196: Iraq

195: Pakistan

194: Syria

193: Somalia

192: North Korea

191: Libya

190: Palestinian Territory

In contrast, Ireland claimed the top spot for the first time, known for its strong global reputation, flexible citizenship laws, and business-friendly tax policies. The country scored highly in all five categories. The list was dominated by European countries, with nine of the top ten spots.

The United Arab Emirates and New Zealand were the only non-European countries in the top 10, both in 10th place. Countries like Singapore and Japan, which often rank high in visa-free rankings, scored lower here due to strict dual citizenship laws and restrictions on personal freedoms.

Here are the top 10:

  1. Ireland
  2. Switzerland
  3. Greece
  4. Portugal
  5. Malta
  6. Italy
  7. Luxembourg
  8. Finland
  9. Norway
  10. United Arab Emirates
