ISLAMABAD: Advisor to the Ministry of Finance Khurram Shahzad has said that Pakistan has repaid Rs4,722 billion in debt ahead of schedule for the first time in history.
In a statement issued on X, the Finance Advisor wrote that in the fiscal year 2026, the repayment of premature loans reached Rs4,722 billion, which is the largest and most continuous repayment in the country’s history.
According to Khurram Shahzad, this is not just an early repayment of debt but also an attempt to reduce risk and debt, as repayment of debt will help reduce debt servicing costs.
He said that early repayment of debt is a fundamental shift towards greater economic stability.
