ISLAMABAD (Rizwan Abbasi): Pakistan has taken an important step to increase its defense capacity after its victory over India in the recent war. The federal government has allowed the temporary import of used defense vehicles.
According to sources, the federal cabinet has approved this decision, and a formal amendment has also been made in the Import Policy Order, 2022, in this regard.
Sources said that the import of used vehicles will be allowed only for the purposes of re-export, and this permission will be given only to specific entities.
This facility will be available only to state-owned enterprises associated with defense production and their fully commercial subsidiaries.
In addition, entities registered under the FBR’s Export Facilitation Support Scheme have also been allowed to import used vehicles.
Sources told Daily Ausaf that the import of vehicles will be subject to NOC from the Ministry of Defense Production and the Ministry of Interior.
Government sources further said that this permission will be limited to the import of used vehicles or their chassis. This move is part of Pakistan’s efforts to modernize its defense preparedness, so as to strengthen regional security.
