Pakistan to witness 'September Equinox' 2024 on September 22

ISLAMABAD: Most parts of the world, including Pakistan will witness the Autumnal Equinox or September Equinox — a rare celestial event where day and night are almost equal in duration — on September 22 (today).

According to astronomical data, Pakistan will experience the September Equinox at 5:43 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST), marking a significant celestial event.

The equinox is an annual event that happens twice a year, in March and September when the sun moves from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere, passing directly over the equator. On these days, everywhere on Earth experiences roughly 12 hours of sunshine and 12 hours of darkness.

At the time of the equinox in September, the Sun rises directly in the east and sets directly in the west. A similar event happens during the spring equinox in March when the Sun moves northwards across the equator.
