PCB likely to appoint Waqar Younis as director of cricket affairs

Waqar Younis as director of cricket affairs

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi plans to appoint former cricketer Waqar Younis to oversee cricket-related matters.

Younis will handle international and domestic cricket, including the selection committee and player No Objection Certificates (NOCs), while Naqvi will focus on administrative duties, including preparations for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which Pakistan will host.

Under the PCB Constitution 2014, Naqvi has the authority to delegate his powers, and Younis will assume responsibility for key cricketing decisions. Naqvi’s goal is to involve experienced cricketers in crucial aspects of the sport.

Earlier this month, Naqvi met with over two dozen former and current cricketers to discuss the future of cricket in Pakistan. He committed to implementing several suggestions from the meeting, including building cricket academies in Islamabad and Peshawar, improving ground standards, prioritizing four-day cricket, enhancing coach education, and establishing five domestic teams with dedicated coaches and mentors.
